Weathering the Storm with Our Local Heroes!

At General Shale, we truly enjoy community involvement, rain or shine! Despite an imminent rain storm, we teamed up with the Johnson City Cardinals on August 5th to honor seven local first responders from Johnson City and Washington County.

“General Shale is proud to honor these dedicated local heroes for their outstanding service to our community,” said our president and CEO, Charles Smith about the event. “We thank them for their hard work and sacrifice to make a difference in this great place General Shale is lucky to call home.”

With threatening weather looming, our General Shale singing group – Closer Walk – happily opened the festivities with the national anthem. As the ball game went on, we paused to award one recipient at the end of each inning. And thanks to a one hour rain delay – we got to know people a lot better in our  hospitality tent!

Despite the deluge, every person involved stayed to spend time, connect with community members and see through each special presentation. Even the kids got involved – with a remote-controlled emergency vehicle race around the bases.

Here are the special honorees who we recognized with commemorative brick sculptures:

Adam Lunceford – 9-year veteran of the Johnson City Police Department

Bobbie Ingram – 10-year veteran EMT IV Tech with Washington County, Johnson City Emergency Medical Services.

Thank you to the Johnson City Cardinalsvenue staff, all the fans and our General Shale family for making this such a meaningful and fun night. Let’s hope for less rain next year!
